Why Coaches & Hypnotists Should DITCH WordPress (And What to Use Instead)
Why Coaches & Hypnotists Should DITCH WordPress (And What to Use Instead)
Let’s be honest: You didn’t start a business so you could mess around with websites.
No way. You started your business to help people transform their lives.
But when most coaches decide to “get serious” about their business, what’s the first thing they do?
They build a WordPress website.
Maybe you've gone this route with a DFY website. Or maybe you hired some guy to build it for you. As you're about to discover, in many ways that's even worse!
The designer builds a site that looks nice, and everything seems fine - until a few months later when you need to update something.
That’s when you realize:
You have no idea how to make changes.
The site isn’t getting you any new clients.
Your designer is nowhere to be found.
What happened?
Simple: Your web designer didn’t build you a coaching business system. They built a basic WordPress website, installed a bunch of extra tools to make it functional, and then handed it over - without teaching you how to use it.
Now, you’re stuck with a website that looks nice but does nothing to grow your business. Why? Because WordPress was never designed for coaches.
Let’s break down the hidden problems with WordPress that most coaches don’t realize - until it’s too late.
We speak from deep experience. We've been using Wordpress since 2008. We still use it today. But for most small coaching businesses it is the wrong choice. That's what we want to help you understand here.
Wordpress Was Never Designed for Coaches & Hypnotists
Imagine you’re opening a new office for your coaching business.
Instead of renting a move-in-ready space, you buy an empty warehouse.
Now, you have to:
Build the walls
Install the lights
Set up the furniture
Hire a security system
And, of course, if anything breaks, YOU have to fix it.
That’s exactly what using WordPress is like.

It’s not a business system - it’s just a blank website. It was designed as blogging software back when social media didn't really exist and blogs were gaining popularity.
Wordpress became a great solution for blogs, and slowly morphed into a flexible way to build nearly any kind of website, just as that empty shell of a warehouse can be turned into almost anything.
What Wordpress Doesn't Do (That You 100% Need)
If you’re a coach, you don’t just need a website. You need a system that:
Lets you make good-looking pages
Captures leads (so visitors don’t just disappear)
Follows up automatically (so you don’t have to chase people)
Schedules calls seamlessly (without back-and-forth emails)
Helps convert leads into paying clients
WordPress doesn’t come with any of that. So what happens? Your web designer installs extra tools (called “plugins”) to add these missing features. And that’s when the real problems start…

The “WordPress is Free” Myth (And What You Actually Pay)
Most coaches choose WordPress because they hear it’s free. Technically this is true. The software is open-source, and free to use.
But that software has to run on a web server somewhere, and you'll still need "themes" and "plugins" to make it look good and extend the functionality beyond the just stuff on a page.
That's why running a functional coaching business website on WordPress is an entirely different story compared to using "free" software.
Website Hosting ($10 to $100 per month)
Hosting is where your website "lives" on the internet. Think of it like renting land.
Cheap hosting usually means you're sharing a server with thousands of other websites, which slows down performance. Plus, cheap hosting means you're getting third-rate customer support. And that customer support? They'll blame the software, which you installed, or the add-on tools, which they didn't sell you.
One of the best Wordpress hosting sites, WPX hosting, is about $20 per month and performs exceptionally well. We use them for our sister company, Mike Mandel Hypnosis. If you must use Wordpress, pick a good host like WPX. Please don't cheap out on a $5/month hosting company.
Security & Backups ($10–$50/month)
WordPress is a favorite target for hackers because it runs on third-party plugins (which often have security holes).
Think about it for a moment - the reason the software is free is because it's open source. This literally means the raw code is free for anyone to inspect. And good hackers know how to look at the code and discover vulnerabilities.
And it's not just the Wordpress code that makes things vulnerable. No way. To extend the functionality of your site you'll need a variety of "plugins" (discussed below). Plugins can be created by anyone. You won't know the coder who build your plugins, and that coder may have accidentally done a bad job.
Plugins are a major source of security vulernability.
The last thing you need is to wake up one day with clients asking you why your website promoting porn, or gambling, or crypto scams.
Inevitably it will happen, and you'll be OK if you have backups of your site. Good hosting companies include backups. That's why we said above do NOT cheap out on hosting.
But if you paid rock bottom for a cheap-0 hosting plan, you better pay separately for a backup service. We remember having to pay Sucuri (a hacking cleanup service) hundreds of dollars to clean a Wordpress site.
Not fun.
A Way to Design Your Pages ($100–$200/year)
WordPress doesn’t come with a beautiful drag and drop page builder out of the box.
You'll need to separately pay for a "theme" such as Divi, Elementor, or (what we've used) Thrive Themes.
These are professional themes that come with templates, drag-and-drop builders, and they make it possible for you to have a pretty awesome-looking site.
Thrive Themes costs $600 per year. Very good tool ... but not cheap.
And no matter how good the page builder, you're still going to want to get someone to help you make your pages look great.
If you edit a template yourself it will look fine. But if you want to make any customizations and you are not a designer, it will be obvious.
This is true for any platform, not just Wordpress. And the good news is we have a better recommendation, so keep reading.
A Booking System ($10–$50/month)
WordPress doesn’t come with built-in scheduling. Most people get a separate booking tool such as Calendly to handle bookings outside of Wordpress.
You'll need to learn how to integrate those outside calendars with your Wordpress site, and if something goes wrong you'll have to figure out who's software is the problem, and go to the right support team to get help.
Sounds fun, right?
An Email Marketing System ($20–$100/month)
Most Wordpress websites that we see from coaches have a basic "Contact Us" form. It's a total disaster because if someone even bothers to fill out that generic form, very little happens. The coach might get a copy of the form submission in their inbox, but the prospect gets nothing but a "Thanks" message after hitting submit.
Anybody who is serious about their business will automate lead follow-up. Usually they'll integrate their Wordpress site with an outside tool like MailChimp or ActiveCampaign.
Then, they'll build forms that connect to those outside email services, and if they can get it all setup properly, amazing automation can happen.
But it's confusing to most small business owners, so they skip this step and use the boring, useless "Contact Us" form that goes nowhere.
(BTW unless you are actually an "us", stop referring to yourself in the plural. People are going to hire you as an individual, so stop talking about yourself as a "we" or an "us")
The Plugin Nightmare (Why Your Site Keeps Breaking)
Remember how we said plugins extend the functionality of Wordpress? It's a guarantee that you'll need at least a half dozen plugins just to get up and running.

A few examples:
Dababase backup plugins
Page duplicator plugin
Shortlink creator plugin
SEO optiization plugin
Image optimization plugin
Form builder plugin
You'll be responsible for keeping these up to date. If just one plugin causes a conflict with an udpated version of Wordpress code, your entire site may break.
Ask us how we know :)
If your site breaks, you won't necessarily know what caused it. Any good support team (at your hosting company) will immediately ask you if they have permission to turn off all plugins. That's because this happens SO often. They'll de-activate plugins and re-activate them one by one to try to figure out which one is the culprit.
Then it's over to you. The hosting company can show you where the problem lies, but it's not their job to fix someone else's software.
Are you starting to understand how unbelievably annoying this can be?
You did not start your coaching or hypnosis business to be come a tech geek, and you do not need these problems slowing you down, forcing you to re-schedule client meetings or hire unknown freelancers in an emergency.
WordPress is a Time-Sucking Distraction
Here’s the harsh truth: A website alone won’t get you clients.
But how many times have you:
Tinkered with your website layout instead of reaching out to leads?
Changed your homepage text instead of following up with potential clients?
Spent hours watching tutorials instead of actually coaching?
You might feel productive, but you’re just avoiding the real work of growing your business.

A website is only useful if it’s part of a bigger system that attracts, nurtures, and books clients automatically.
Which brings us to the big question…
So What’s the Smarter Alternative?
Clearly, WordPress wasn’t built for coaches.
What you need isn’t just a website. You need a business-building system that:
Captures leads effortlessly
Automates your follow-ups
Books calls without back-and-forth emails
Helps turn leads into paying clients
And you shouldn’t have to spend thousands of dollars (or endless hours) setting it up.
That’s why we created a better way.
But before we get to that…
We put together a free, step-by-step report that breaks down the exact system we teach to coaches, hypnotists, NLP practitioners and other professional people-helpers.
